We have a total of 10 Guest rooms (8 en suite rooms and 2 shared bathrooms). The main storey building has five ‘House Rooms’ & the family wing has two ‘Family rooms separated by a lounge. Our newest addition is the Rustic Cottage Rooms that offers a “Safari experience” across the property’s garden. All rooms include free fast wifi, a desk, chair, firm mattress, and Custom-designed mosquito nets. Our hand-crafted beds offer the flexibility to request either a single, double, twin –share or triple occupancy. Cots for babies are available.

Our dining area is within the main house adjacent to the lounge area covered in nice African decor. Our menu – Our chefs have created a menu that reflects the image of African Roots – Simple, laid back and fresh with great taste. Our dishes are prepared locally with the freshest ingredients raised and grown from our community.
Breakfasts are included in the room rate; lunch menu is available throughout the day and available to order on an A-la-carte basis. Each evening African Roots serves fresh and tasty full course meals. If you have any special dietary requirements, just let us know in advance and we will be happy to alter the menu for you. Please note that dinner bookings are by reservation only before 3:00pm.
- THINGS TO DO IN ENTEBBE
This beautiful town pointed right by the shores of Lake Victoria has a number of activities to keep one busy whilst visiting Entebbe.
- Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary
Established in 1998, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is now home to 49 orphaned rescued chimpanzees from throughout Uganda. This project is run by Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) to provide exceptional opportunity to the Orphaned Chimpanzees while educating visitors and local communities about this remarkable species. Two half day speed scheduled boat trips depart the main land daily to view either a morning or afternoon feeding which is just fun to watch the chimps interact with one another, raise their hands for food, use sticks to reach the food that didn’t make it over the fence, hear an informative talk by sanctuary staff, viewing a neighboring fishing village, bird watching, other wildlife encounters, or just sunbathe and enjoy the island.
Tour cost: $US88.00 per person (subject to minimum number of 4 people on board)
Children: Between 5- 15 years half price& under 5 years – Free of charge.
Tour time/duration: Morning viewing 9.00am -1.00pm. Afternoon viewing 12.45pm- 5.00pm. Boat ride on Lake Victoria is approximately 50 minutes on a speed boat each way.
What is included: Return boat transfers, island entrance fees & life jacket.
What to carry: Sunglasses, rain jacket in rainy season and wear sun cream for persons with sensitive skin as Entebbe is hot in the drier seasons.

- Mabamba Shoebill Tour
Mabamba Swamp, west of Entebbe is one of the best few places to see the elusive shoe-bill stork – one of Africa`s most endangered birds. This tour can go either with a motorized canoe or drive.The best departure time is 6:00am and morning visits are recommended when the birds stalk their main prey, otherwise this tour can go between 6:30am – 3pm.
Boat Option – The tour has a lot to offer even if you’re not an avid bird watcher. The tour begins with a walk through a vibrant harbor local market, then a ride across the Lake Victoria by boat (45 minutes ride) to Mamba swamp, where you then switch to a small dugout canoe and venture into the papyrus marsh in search of The Shoebill. Other interesting things to see is the fascinating biodiversity, water birds, and island stopover which is home to farmers and fishermen.
Road option – The drive is 1.5 hours each way on a dirt road. But going by boat across the Lake Victoria is highly recommended which gives you an opportunity to see many of the birds that you may otherwise miss.

- Biking tour
This guided bike tour is the perfect way to explore the main spots of Entebbe within a few hours. Depending on the tour package, highlights may include – downtown, the local market with very tasty sun kissed fruits, vibrant ferry harbor, the station, beautiful viewpoints over Lake Victoria, The botanical gardens, reptile village & a glimpse of The President’s residence. Most of the biking routes are easy and very manageable with some small hills of moderate difficulty. Children from 10 years or 9 (if meets the required height) are allowed on this tour.
Tour cost: Range from $US25.00 – 60.00 per person – depending on the tour package
Tour time/duration: 2 – 6 hours, can be adjusted to suit your interest

- Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC)
This is an educational center within Entebbe and is one stop center where you see most of the animals found in Uganda. Many of the animals here have been rescued from poachers or illegal traders, or from injury in the wild. If you don’t have time to go on a proper safari and have only several hours before your flight, here you get all of it condensed. You can take a walk and get to see from lions to elephants and lot’s of birds from the shoebill, fish eagles or engage n other in depth experiences such as “Chimpanzee Close-up”, and “Keeper for a Day Experience” and
“Behind the Scenes Tours” which is very popular among visitors.
Behind the scene tour – is a two-hour entertaining and educational adventure that offers special hands on experience and interesting information about how residents (animals and birds) are cared for. This activity offers opportunity for a ‘close up’ and personal encounter with the lions, elephant plus many more animals you perhaps have not imagined meeting before!

- Entebbe Botanical Gardens
This beautiful gardens appeal to nature lovers. It boots a number of plants, birds, monkeys and a spectacular scenic view of the Lake Victoria – a good way to relax while in Entebbe. You can explore the garden independently although taking a guide with you is highly recommended for a better understanding about the plants and history.
Tour cost: $US5.00 per person excluding guide
- Sunset cruise
This cruise will take you close to the lake shores, past a fishing village and airport while you watch the sun set with opportunity to watch some amazing bird life on the water’s edge. Drinks and snacks plus finger foods are plenty on board. The cruise departs at 6:00pm and best time to view the sunset is 6:45PM.
Tour cost: USD150.00 per for up to a minimum of 5 persons on board

- Sport Fishing on Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria offers the option of fishing Nile perch the largest fresh water game fish in the world. You can opt to fish half day or full day on the lake on a speed boat or motorized canoe. Other fish species include tilapia, cat fish and silver fish.We recommend going as a small group (3-4 people) as it splits the cost of the boat.
- 18 Hole Golf Course
Entebbe has a well-groomed lush green 18 hole course covered in beautiful tropical trees. Day membership and club hire are available to travelers. Please contact us for more information.
- Tuesday & Saturday Open Market
Close to the Guesthouse, there is an open colorful market which is busy on Saturdays (walk able from Guesthouse) and Tuesday in down town Kitoro (5 minutes’ drive). Interesting to see is how the local people go about with their sales, the varied number of fresh fruits, vegetables, dry ratios, clothes and other household items, all making it vibrant and busy. It’s safe to do a personal walk and experience the market your pace or a guide.
About 3 hours drive from Entebbe, Jinja is known as the “Adventure Capital of East Africa”. African Roots can help you organize all the adventure activities – White water rafting, jet boating, kayak school, horseback safaris, quad bike safaris, bungee jumping or paragliding.
How to get to/from Jinja via Kampala – We can fix a transfer with our Guesthouse shuttle at USD100.00 (return journey driver and gas inclusive), alternatively we recommend The Pineapple Express inter-city shuttle service as a reliable and cost-effective option.
The Sesse Islands – The best option from African Roots is the daily ferry that departs Nakiwogo pier at 2pm arriving at Kalangala around 5-6pm. Return ferry is the next morning at 7am docking on the mainland at 11:00am. Depending on your budget we can advise you on a number of accommodation options on the islands.
