Just 40 minutes – 1 hour drive away from Gulu town is Fort Patiko/Baker situated in a nice rural area of Ajulu. This important historical location was a modern slavery hub where Arabs slave masters used as a sorting ground for slaves. The healthy-looking slaves were then forced to trek from Patiko, through Sudan across the Red Sea and sold in Egypt. While the history and remains of it are rather interesting, the natural beauty of the landscape is breath taking with fantastic views of rocky outcropping beyond the fort, vast open vegetation seen miles away. There is also a nice opportunity to take a little walk in the surrounding area and hike to one of the close hills.
We advise you bring proper hiking boots, rain jacket in the rainy season and wear long trousers as it can get very bushy (especially after the rainy season) and you might find have to find your own track. AR safaris can fix this excursion for you kindly contact us for more details.
These seven lines of cascading streams of roaring waterfalls offer a thrilling unforgettable and adventurous experience. This place is ideal for adventure seekers as you can enjoy a dip below the water fall, hike up the ragged rocks with not so well defined path, enjoy bird watching or a picnic day out to appreciate nature. The road to the falls is off the beat and facilities at the camp site need a little uplift. Aruu Falls is 47Km away from Gulu town and AR safaris can fix your excursion – kindly contact us for more details.
