Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Established in 1998, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is now home to 49 orphaned rescued chimpanzees from throughout Uganda. This project is run by Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) to provide exceptional opportunity to the Orphaned Chimpanzees while educating visitors and local communities about this remarkable species. Two half day speed scheduled boat trips depart the main land daily to view either a morning or afternoon feeding which is just fun to watch the chimps interact with one another, raise their hands for food, use sticks to reach the food that didn’t make it over the fence, hear an informative talk by sanctuary staff, viewing a neighboring fishing village, bird watching, other wildlife encounters, or just sunbathe and enjoy the island.
