Mabamba Shoebill Tour

Mabamba Swamp, west of Entebbe is one of the best few places to see the elusive shoe-bill stork – one of Africa`s most endangered birds. This tour can go either with a motorized canoe or drive.The best departure time is 6:00am and morning visits are recommended when the birds stalk their main prey, otherwise this tour can go between 6:30am – 3pm. 

Boat Option – The tour has a lot to offer even if you’re not an avid bird watcher. The tour begins with a walk through a vibrant harbor local market, then a ride across the Lake Victoria by boat (45 minutes ride) to Mamba swamp, where you then switch to a small dugout canoe and venture into the papyrus marsh in search of The Shoebill. Other interesting things to see is the fascinating biodiversity, water birds, and island stopover which is home to farmers and fishermen.

Road option – The drive is 1.5 hours each way on a dirt road. But going by boat across the Lake Victoria is highly recommended which gives you an opportunity to see many of the birds that you may otherwise miss.
